Zone 1
- Targets all submerged litter at 33-55 ft. of depth around the Placer County shoreline of Lake Tahoe.
- Divers use Nitrox gas for extended working time at depth and diver propulsion vehicles for increased speed in areas that have less litter.
- Divers will complete surveillance on every dive where they GPS mark and will photo and video document any aquatic invasive species, heavy lift litter items, historical articacts, hot spots or potential harmful algal blooms and will report any significant finding to appropriate government services.
- All litter will be categorized into 83 categories using the United Nations Marine Litter Categorization System that was adapted for freshwater. This data will be shared publicly as well as at the 4th Annual Lake Tahoe Litter Summit with all local, state, and federal government agencies in the Tahoe area in order to help educate and inform policymakers.
- Organizational staff will create educational videos for marinas and vessel rental operators to inform new boaters about litter risks and enlist their help in keeping trash out of Lake Tahoe.
