TOT-TBID Dollars at Work

About the program

The TOT-TBID Dollars At Work program reinvests TBID and TOT dollars generated in North Lake Tahoe in support of initiatives that contribute to community vitality, economic health and environmental stewardship and benefit residents, businesses, and visitors.

Committees convened by the NTCA that consist of representatives from local businesses evaluate and determine which investment opportunities align with community-identified priorities, including workforce housing, economic development, transportation, sustainability, human impact mitigation, and trails.

Those investments are then either funded directly with TBID dollars or recommended to the Placer County Board of Supervisors for funding with TOT dollars. Together with Placer County, the NTCA is investing TOT-TBID Dollars At Work to benefit North Lake Tahoe.

Funding is divided into four cycles: the Annual Grant Cycle, Sponsorship & Multi-Year Program, Event Funding, and Out-Of-Cycle Investments.

How it started

The development of the TOT-TBID Dollars At Work Program involved close collaboration and feedback from four committees, including the TBID Advisory, Zone 1, Transient Occupancy Tax Committee, and Capital Projects Advisory Committee. Each committee participated in a series of meetings where they vetted program components, provided insights, and contributed to refining the program structure.

In addition, NTCA conducted a comprehensive community survey to gather input from residents and stakeholders. This valuable feedback was incorporated into the program to ensure it accurately reflects the needs, priorities, and aspirations of the North Tahoe community. The result is a comprehensive and well-considered framework that aligns with the goals and priorities of the NTCA and Placer County Board and provides a mechanism by which businesses, non-profits, regional agencies, and others can request investment.
