  • TAMBA will build a 2-mile-long single-track connection from the Antone Meadows area up to the Tahoe Rim Trail to bypass Road 73 (Fiberboard Freeway)
  • This project will improve safety by reducing trail user versus vehicle conflicts on a popular Forest Service Road
  • This project increases loop options for a better recreation experience in a popular area near Tahoe City
  • TAMBA has completed 1 mile and will complete and finish the second mile of trail in 2024

Completed Project Summary:

TAMBA’s incredible volunteers dedicated over 98 days and 2,028 hours to building this trail, while their professional trail crew contributed an additional 1,265 hours, constructing 1,500 square feet of armored trail tread. This ambitious project required a combined effort from both volunteers and the Professional Trail Crew to overcome the challenges of its remote location.

Now open, the newly built trail seamlessly connects to Phase 1 and the Tahoe Rim Trail, significantly enhancing the trail network and achieving the goal of moving bikers and hikers off Forest Service Road 73. Since the project’s inception in 2022, TAMBA has committed to making this trail a reality, reinforcing their dedication to sustainable recreation and trail development.

Previous Updates:

TAMBA volunteers and the TAMBA Pro Crew worked collaboratively on this trail, with the Pro Crew building 158 feet of rock wall to build the trail tread and clearing 46 trees out of the trail corridor. A ribbon-cutting and opening celebration will occur in 2025.

2024 FS 73 Bypass Volunteer Dig Days are taking place through November! No experience is needed. Learn more and sign-up.

A trail counter was installed on the trail in July to get an idea of how many bikers use the FS 73 bypass.
