Recent Updates

October-December 2024:

With TOT-TBID funds, Sierra Community House helped local workforce households to attain and sustain housing by providing case management services, legal assistance, and direct payments to landlords, utility companies, and other housing-related costs. During the 4th quarter of this 3-yr sponsorship grant:

  • $30,503.11 in TOT-TBID funds were paid directly to landlords/utility companies on behalf of 20 households,
  • SCH Advocates provided 21 households with legal services related to a landlord-tenant matter,
  • SCH Advocates leveraged $2,450 from the Southwest Gas utility assistance partnership to help 10 households maintain gas service
  • SCH Advocates provided resource navigation services related to stabilizing housing for 160 households.

SCH services addressed urgent threats to housing stability (i.e., eviction notices) and root causes of housing insecurity, including loss of employment, divorce, death in the household, illness/injury, and vehicle repair needs. Our three-pronged approach of tenant-based rental and utility assistance, legal assistance, and case management supports long-term housing stability for local workers. It preserves long-term rental units in the process.
